Few Playmates have enjoyed the popularity of Miss December 1968. Servicemen by the thousands carried her centerfold with them to battlefields in Vietnam. She's still a queen to many fans, who have named her the official Playmate of the Playboy Mailing List newsgroup on the World Wide Web. "I always felt I wanted to stir up a little dust in my life," Cynthia says of her adolescence in Toledo, Ohio. And she did. When her high school principal heard about her Playboy appearance, he told her if it had been up to him, she wouldn't have received her diploma. "When my little sister got to that same high school," Cynthia says today, "they were telling students, 'Welcome To Woodward High School, alma mater of Danny Thomas, Helen O'Connell, Jamie Farr and Cynthia Myers.' " Interviewed by author Steve Sullivan for his forthcoming book "Bombshells," Cynthia described her reaction to her centerfold photo. "I didnt realize my breasts were that big!" she said. "I'd never seen them from that angle. Wow! No wonder people were looking at me that way!" After her magazine debut, Cynthia made frequent appearances on Hefner's "Playboy After Dark" TV series, landed parts in several movies and was cast, along with Playmate Dolly Read, in a leading role for the famed Russ Meyer-Roger Ebert screen collaboration "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls." While in Hollywood, she dated a number of actors, including Burt Lancaster, Michael Blodgett and Bob Fuller. Later, she was engaged for a time to an orthopedic surgeon. In 1981, Cynthia took off on a solo auto trip and paused near Lake Mead, Nevada. "I met a man there while fishing," she says. "I ran out of bait and he gave me some of his." The generous fisherman and Cynthia have been married for 15 years and live in Southern California with their 14-year-old son and Cynthias horse, Missy. Since reconnecting with Playboy in 1994, Cynthia has been a mainstay of centerfold alumni activities.
